Hi, I have found everyone%26#39;s comments so good so I thought I would ask your advice on a trip I am planning with a friend in last August for 3 weeks.
Saigon - 2 days
Saigon to Phnom Penh by boat - 2 days
Phnom Penh - 2 days
Siem Reap - 3.5 days
Flight back to Saigon
Catching the 5 star train to Nha Trang - arrives at 1.30pm.
Nha Trang 2.5 days
Flight to Hoi An
Hoi An - 3 days
Flight to Hanoi
Cruise to Halong Bay - 2 days/1 night
Hanoi - 2 days
Night flight back to Sydney.
If anyone can give me any tips on this itinerary or just travelling there in general - good or bad it would really appreciated.
Thanks
Debbie.
Advice on My Suggested Itinerary
That%26#39;s a very good plan Debbie, but if you could fly to Cambodia first then do all Vietnam at once rather than just back and ford.
Advice on My Suggested Itinerary
Thanks heaps for your message.
Yes, I think that might be a better option to fly straight into Siem Reap and then just travel down the river to Saigon - is that what you mean?
Just to clarify, I am travelling from Australia so regardless I need to fly into Saigona and get a connecting plan - we cannot fly direct to Cambodia from Australia.
Thanks for your message.
Any suggestions of hotels in those locations. There are so many on the net, it can get quite confusing which are the best.
Hi,
Another option, depending on how crucial Nha Trang is to your plans, would be to fly from Siem Reap direct to Danang. I think there are a couple of flights a week. You could then use your extra days in Hoi An and add Hue, flying from there to Hanoi.
I personally didn%26#39;t think that much of Nha Trang and would use extra time at Hoi An to be my beach experience.

Hi
Hotels are very much dependent on your budget.
Here are the ones I have used / will be using in May - all between $25 and $50 US per room per night.
HCMC - Spring Hotel, good location, helpful staff, nice rooms.
Siem Reap - Mekong Angkor Palace Guesthouse, good location, friendly, good rooms, nice pool.
Hoi An - Thuy Duong 3 (my favourite) good location, friendly staff, good room, great pool, great breakfast
Hanoi - Gia Tinh - haven%26#39;t stayed there yet - picked on good reports on TA
easy to book them all on-line/via e-mail.
good luck
Great suggestions thank you.
I am travelling with a friend and we are happy to pay $100 per night $50 ea, so they seem very reasonable.
Our birthdays fall on Nha Trang and Hanoi so we are going to maybe splurge $100 each and enjoy the day.
Looking forward to it and thanks for all your help.
I would only spend 2 nights in Hoi An - there%26#39;s not that much to do there.
Hi
I do not agree. Hoi An is a great place to spend an extended period of time. The food, shopping, sights, history, beach are just great. Spent 9 days there last time despite only planning on 5 and have booked for another 8 in June. Can%26#39;t wait to get back there.
