Length of stay in Hoi An

Hello,

We are planning on going to Vietnam for our honeymoon next year. We want to spend a few days in Ho Chi Minh City and then spend the rest of time in Hoi An which would be 14 nights. Reading forum posts and reviews, it seems that people only stay in Hoi An for 4-6 nights at most and I was wondering if 14 nights would be too long.

We don%26#39;t want to spend our entire honeymoon travelling around and thought we%26#39;d be able to have a nice relaxing couple of weeks splitting our time between town and beach in Hoi An, plus days out (we%26#39;re thinking about the Life Heritage Resort).

I%26#39;d be grateful for advice/opinions on if you think this would work or would we get bored?

Hi jillandmatt,

Have you considered splitting your time a bit further and having 3-4 nights in Hue as well? It%26#39;s not all that far, and it%26#39;s another lovely spot. Fly from HCM to Danang (for Hoi An), travel by road or maybe train to Hue, then fly out from there.

Or, here%26#39;s another idea....

Since you%26#39;re coming so far, what about Siem Reap in Cambodia. Angkor Wat, the Bayon, Ta Promh, all incredible and Siem Reap would be a lovely little honeymoon town. We had a fabulous local guide there, and would go back in a flash!!

Hi

i think, 3-4 days in Hoian is enough so you better spend time somewhere else like PhuQuoc, Muine or Nhatrang

Hi Laceytreigh,

Thanks for your suggestions, I will look into both Hue and Siem Reap as Cambodia is somewhere we would like to visit at some point during our lives!

We didn%26#39;t want to be packing up and moving on too often though, but I guess we%26#39;ll have to if we want to see Vietnam properly. I quite like the idea of travelling to Hue on the train though!

We thought the idea of travelling to Hue sounded like fun, too. Alas, the reality was nothing like the idea..........

JillandMatt,

I would spend forever in Hoi An if the fates allow.

I am planning a honeymoon now, and all we want to find is somewhere to relax and destress after all this wedding planning!

Hoi An would be perfect for that. I agree with other posts regarding Hue etc, but totally see your aim of not travelling around to much.

Unfortunately for me, my wedding is around Typhoon season, so Hoi An will not be my destination.....If the fiance would allow, then it would be!!

I suppose the reason most people spend so little time there is because they do go all that way and want to see alot of the country in a short period.

But if you like what you experience in HCMC and Hoi An then you can go back and explore another time.

I shouldn%26#39;t type when I%26#39;m tired. I meant to say, ';...the idea of travelling to Hue ON THE TRAIN...'; Hue was great. The train was not, at least from HCMC to Da Nang. The section from Da Nang to Hue, however, was spectacular and one we hope to repeat.

Thanks again all - whereisnot, I spoke to Matt last night and he said he couldn%26#39;t see why 14 nights would be too long for what we want to do which is relaxing by the pool, spending time sat in bars (of course) and time at the beach. Just general de-stressing.

Yorkfoodie - you have well and truly knocked the train idea on the head!
