Hi
We need to take a train from Saigon January 4 to Phan Thiet and return to Saigon January 6.Has anyone anyone done this and how?how much does it cost? I%26#39;ve tried so many websites and am getting nowhere! 5starexpress no longer exists and the Golden Train appears to have no English link...I%26#39;m so confused. Is it possible to book the train ahead of time as we will only have one day in Saigon before leaving for Phan Thiet?

Train to Phan Thiet from Saigon
Well, according to every website I go on to ,that company no longer exists - they%26#39;ve gone out of business
Hi Laurie,
I think Phan Thiet is often overlooked by tourists, as it is such a pain to get there - only 3 choices:
Bus (apparently the air-conditioned coach isn%26#39;t too bad)
Train?????
Private car - about $115US one way.
If you work it out, let me know, as we will be doing the same as you in April, although we are in HCM for 3 days, so we will have a bit more time to organise.
Cheers,
Sandy
Thanks Sandy...I%26#39;ll definitely let you know when we%26#39;ve done it!
Hi Laurie! I%26#39;m also looking for transportation from Saigon to Phan Thiet in the beginning of January. Have you had any luck finding a train? Thank you in advance! -Robin
Hi Guys, have just arrived home from vietnam. I do not know of any trains to Phan Thiet, only the bus from saigon. The railway does not go there. The airconditioned bus is fine. We caught the bus from Saigon to Nha trang and went through Phan Thiet. Bus would be best but book in advance maybe a couple of days. Book your train tickets at the station, takes not long and you save money. The express trains which are the SE trains, book a soft sleeper cabin, you can also book the cabin just for yourselves. Definetly book a SE train only and tell them you want the fastes train. We had no problem booking through the train station at all. We did book one day early and the trains were almost sold out already, If its a festive season, you may want to book before you go or at least a couple of days in advance. Hope this helps.
Try these, if you havent already:

Hi Laurie-
I%26#39;m doing the same trip in December and here%26#39;s what I found:
According to seat61, since 5star express went out of business - ';golden trains'; took over the service, but just provides luxury cars tacked onto a regular (slow) VR train.
According to the VR railways website, Saigon to Phan Thiet takes 4-5 hours and schedule is as follows:
6:45am leave Saigon, 11:35 arrive Phan Thiet
7:30am leave Saigon, 11:39 arrive Phan Thiet
as far as I can tell these 2 are daily.
and on Friday, Saturday, Sunday:
5:30pm leave Saigon, 10:23pm arrive Phan Thiet
return:
1:40pm leave Phan Thiet, 6:47pm arrive Saigon
Friday, Saturday and Sunday:
11:25pm leave Phan Thiet, 4:54am arrive Saigon
Not sure about fares.
And according to seat61, you cannot book in advance through VR, but they reccommend these travel agencies who can book tickets for you:
www.vietnamstay.com
www.saigonhotel.com
www.vietnamimpressive.com
Alternatively, express tourist buses look to be about 3.5-5 hours also leaving Saigon in the early morning, US$6 though not sure about booking in advance. Kim Travel (Hanh Cafe) in Mui Ne (phone: 062847347) may have more info.
Hope this is helpful!
Hi
I%26#39;m just replying to all of you who have given such great advice.I have in fact booked the train (soft sleeper)from Saigon through the www.vietnamstay.com website and it does stop at Phan Thiet train station (according to them). It wasn%26#39;t cheap $132USD fro 4 x people - but not too bad either. We really needed to book ahead because we won%26#39;t even have been in Saigon 24 hours before we would need to go to Phan Thiet. So, eventually,we solved this problem! Thanks everyone for your interest!
Hi Laurie,
Can you tell me what time the train leaves, and what time it stops at Phan Tiet?
Cheers,
Sandy
