Phan Thiet

Going to Viet next April and thinking of visiting Phan Thiet as a wind down at the end. Any advice would be welcome. Looking at the CoCo to stay - is it OK. Read that fish sauce making is big - but smelly - is it a problem.

I think you meant Mui Ne instead of Phan Thiet. Mui Ne section of town where are the resorts are is nice and quiet. You can walk around that strip of town. One side is resorts the other side is resturants. We didn%26#39;t smell any fish sauce while in Mui Ne.

CoCo is very nice resort. We stop there to check room, but they were sold out, due to the weekend. It was bad planning on our part, we check out lots of resort along the street and most were sold out.

We didn%26#39;t like the beach at Mui Ne, because it is narrow compare to other beaches in the Carribbean. Plus, the water is kinda rough, so the kids couldn%26#39;t swim in it..it could have been the time we went.

To me..I think the beach at Ca Na is more beautiful, but it far from Saigon.

We stayed in Phan Thiet last year (Jan 08) - at the Novotel Ocean Dunes and Golf Result (despite not being golfers). If you want a wind down, this is the place (see my review). This is a very relaxing place - right next to the beach - but the grounds are cool, shady - and sunny - all that you want. Food and breakfast good as well - there is a nice beach cafe.

Don%26#39;t miss out on Mui Ne - get a taxi (plentiful, $6 15 mins). This way you get the nightlife, bars and restaurants in Mui Ne in the evening with the wind down at the hotel during the day.

Fish sauce - you cannot smell this from the hotel at all. But when you go via the taxi to Mui Ne - for about 5 minutes - you can smell it and wonder how the locals live in it! Hope this helps.

Hi. We just got to Mui Ne today and are staying at CoCo Beach (upon a friend%26#39;s recommendation). The hotel is absolutely stunning and beautiful! Every room is a private bungalow (with ocean view. I am actually sitting on our porch typing this right now). Someone above said the resort is old. True. This is the first and original hotel on this beach. However, you would never guess that when you are here (They close down the hotel completely every year for a month or two to do ';upkeeping'; on the property). Everything is in great condition! The beach is pretty and very well kept as well. The water is warm, but it is a bit windy (although not bothersome). From what we saw along our walk on the beach, CoCo Beach is definitely the best place here (at least, best looking). It%26#39;s quaint with a lot of charm! Good luck deciding. Hope you have fun!
