Traveling to Da Nang in Mid March. Will be spending 7 nights at Furama. Mostly plan to relax on the beach but would like to take a few day trips. Will be traveling with my 4 children ages 4-12. What is more appropriate for their ages, My Son or Marble Mountain? Which do you consider the must do of the two? We are going to do a walking tour of Hoi An and I hope to pick up a few souvenirs along the way. Any merchant suggestions for embroidery pictures? Thanks!

Hi bullionqueenie,
Since you%26#39;ve yet to receive a reply, I thought I%26#39;d say something, even if it%26#39;s not all that relevant :) We went through Danang to get to Hoi An, but didn%26#39;t stay to sightsee. During our ride, we caught a glimpse of Marble Mountain, which the taxi driver said would look amazing at sunrise. It%26#39;s totally subjective, of course, but to me, it looks like a nice, but not spectacular mountain. There%26#39;s a tall temple on it, which is the attraction, I suppose. I didn%26#39;t get to see My Son either (as my friend thought seeing the Angkor temples in Cambodia was more than enough), although I would%26#39;ve liked to, as I%26#39;ve heard from a few people that it%26#39;s definitely worth seeing.
We did, however, spend a day walking around Hoi An. It%26#39;s a nice little town... not too crowded and the weather was cool- at least when we were there in Jan. You%26#39;ll have no trouble picking up souvenirs along the way or finding embroidery pictures for sale- they%26#39;re everywhere! I don%26#39;t have the name of the place we went to, but there%26#39;s a popular site where they sell lanterns, wooden carvings, weaved mats and silk products and you can see the craftsmen at work. We were taken through to see the silk worms and see how they extract the silk. I%26#39;d imagine that that would be interesting to the kids. If you%26#39;re prepared to spend some serious money, they also sell art that the girls there have personally stitched- we were told that these girls work 6 days a week, 10 hours a day or so and that the larger artworks take several months to complete. For smaller works though (as well as lanterns), you can find them everywhere on the streets, and for cheaper than at this particular site that some tourists are bus-ed to enmasse.
Have a nice trip!

Thanks for the feedback Woozie!
The Furama is only a few minutes taxi ride to Marble mountain(s). If you really wanted to you could walk there, though it will take a while and there is really nothing to see on the way.
It will take you all of 3 hours max to do the main marble mountain over totally. The local kids will try to hit you up for 100,000 dong as a guide fee, and there is a small entrance fee as well of 15,000. and then theres the 10,000 dong bottle of water for fre torch loan....
there are also a few other smaller mountains with caves and pagodas in the near vicinity.
if you are into marble carvings check out the works of art in the township at the base. They are really pretty skilled at this stuff!
What about My Son? Doable with children? Worth a visit?
