Ho Chi Min City to Siem Reap

We want to either go from Siem Reap to HCMC or vice versa. We seam to be getting nowhere with flights. Has any one travelled on the Expressway or be able to suggest another option

If you are flying from Scotland- my guess is it will be most affordable to fly to HCMC, and then to Siem Reap- as Siem Reap airport can not handle any large heavy duty commercial flights. Most of the flights in and out of Cambodia seem to be smaller flights from Thailand or Vietnam.

It is really difficult to book Vietnam to Cambodia flights when you aren%26#39;t in Vietnam. We%26#39;ve been trying. So far the only places I could find them wanted 220+USD for a one way ticket.

However, once you are in Vietnam it seems no problem to book a flight HCMC to Siem Reap for around 100USD.

The flight is quick, and I think probably the easiest way to get there.

I have heard of some people going by boat, which sounds like fun, but is somewhat time consuming. Also there are busses that run from HCMC to Moc Bai, and then from Moc Bai to Phnom Penh, and another bus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. It is a very lengthy process, but very inexspensive. there is no rail into Cambodia.

We%26#39;ve chosen to just get plane tickets when we get to Vietnam. From all I have gathered once you are in country it is easy and affordable and there are flights almost daily. Getting a few days in advance doesn%26#39;t seem to be a problem.

If you plan on re-entering Vietnam to fly back out remember to get a multiple entry Visa, and have your entry and exit points determined (they will need to be stated on your visa)

I flew into VN, took one of the tour with Saigon Tourist co. for 4days/3nites for less than $200 (with 3 or 4 star accommodation). The other option is to use Mai-Linh express bus service from Saigon to Siemrep (just don%26#39;t know the cost) if you want to DIY. The boat trip is slow but worth it if you have the time.

Thank you for your help. We will be flying from Bangkok therefore there should be no problem. We are only planning to be in HCMC for two nights then moving to Siem Reap for three, but we could do it the other way. We will have to see. This is my retirement gift to my husband and is hopefully to take in the Grand Prix at KL. Your advice has been useful.

We flew from HCMC to Siem Reap very cheaply with a %26#39;Discovery Pass%26#39; from a company called Bankoair, and is great if you want to go to a lot of cities in Indochina in a short time. The pass allows 3/6 legs of cheap travel within Asia, and their website displays their routes.

Thank you very much for your very useful information. At present I am unable to book domestic flights as it is a bit early. I wasn%26#39;t born in Elgin but I have been here since 1977. My four kids went to Elgin Academy. My youngest daughter and her husband have been to Siem Reap and loved it.

very useful info..we%26#39;re thinking in doing smth very similar once in HCM we will book a flight to Camboya we%26#39;re interesting in Angkor Wat.

But what about the visa entry to Camboya is it easy to get I mean quickly???

Depending on if you want to return to VN after Cambodia, the single entry visa to Cambodia is $20. If you plan to come back to VN after sight seeing in Cambodia, I recommend getting multiple entry visa to VN then you don%26#39;t have to pay extra.

My experience with Siem Reap is that couple of days trip will be plenty to discover Cambodia. Most of the beautiful scenery, temples and some touristy events and night life are all in Siem Reap. The capitol Phnom Penh hasn%26#39;t had much appeal to me except the historical royal palace and some ';Khmer Rouge'; attrocity sites.

To get a visa for Cambodia go to http://evisa.mfaic.gov.kh/ this is a site set up by the Cambodian Government to apply for a visa online. Scan your passport photo and pay by credit card, it took only days to return a visa to my email.

We did the Melong Delta portion of this trip with a company called Discovery Indochina in November 2008 for a three day tour. (at a premium price, BTW) On the second day, services simply stopped. We weren%26#39;t taken on multiple sightseeing stops that we paid for - meaning we had to pay another guide to make up what was lost. We called the head office and were promised the guide would show up the next morning. He didn%26#39;t. We were left scrambling to make it to a boat - when missing it would have compromised our whole vacation. Their only response aftweward was Vietnamese tourism is still learning. I%26#39;ve arranged many activities in Vietnam and have always found the people to be extremely helpful. They usually over deliver, but this company is the opposite. I wouldn%26#39;t use them again even if they were the only tour option.
