Ha Pagoda has long been a place for single people to pray for love and marriage. Youngsters go to the pagoda with the belief that Buddha understands their wishes for husbands or wives and that Buddha will help them marry their dream person.

Ha Pagoda’s yard is spacious. Young girls are seated on stone chairs waiting to take their offerings to altars in the pagoda.

Cutting predestined affinity and mothers’ faults

Ha Pagoda is famous for the “cutting predestined affinity” service. I played the role of a woman who was seeking that service for a younger sister who was over 30 but still alone.

A Buddhist nun said the pagoda didn’t offer such ceremonies.

“That ceremony is very costly, up to several million dong. Some girls invite ritual makers to their homes or they go to ritual makers’ houses to do the ceremony,” the nun said.
