Is Nha Trang for us?

My husband and I are in our fifties. We are considering coming to Nha Trang in July and would like to know where the best area for us would be.

We like to walk, shop or site see during the day and in the evening we like a choice of restaurants and bars where we might find some live entertainment.

We are not sure whether this is the place for us or if Cambodia would suit us better. We do not like it to be too quiet either in the day or night time. Also, would 14 nights be too long a stay? Any other suggestions welcome.

Is Nha Trang for us?

Hi - I was in Nha Trang right before New Years and I%26#39;d say if you%26#39;re in your 50%26#39;s then Nha Trang isn%26#39;t for you. It%26#39;s a party town with the main draw being the beach, obviously, but most people come to Nha Trang to dive, drink and party. However Mui Ne may be better suited to you. It is also a beach town - smaller and more quite than Nha Trang. Mui Ne is south of Nha Trang by a couple of hours.

Is Nha Trang for us?

I am 48 and my husband is 50 and we loved Nha Trang however, we only spent 3 nights there.

Mui Ne would have been far too quiet for us!

We went on one of the island hopping boat trips that offered snorkelling and a floating bar as well as lunch and entertainment. The floating bar was a real hoot and the water was beautiful. The entertainment was nothing like you have ever seen before; the crew turned into the band and had lots of us up singing and dancing with them, so funny!! The lunch that was cooked by the crew was also great. There were stingers in the water so we didn鈥檛 snorkel and the few people that did were back out of the water pretty fast.

We also went diving in Nha Trang in October, that wasn鈥檛 all that great because of the visibility but it was good to be in the water for the day. I liked the market in Nha Trang and I thought the food was excellent.

I wish we had more time there and if ever we go back to Vietnam we will visit there again. There is plenty do and see from Nha Trang. I don鈥檛 know if 14 days would be too long for you but I鈥檇 love to spend 14 days there. Or you could consider spending 7 nights there and 7 nights in Hoi An, just a short flight away.

If you are looking for budget accom have a look at 鈥楽eaview Hotel鈥?a huge room with a view for just $20usd a night.

Enjoy,

C.

hi

Have you looked at Hoi An?

While I think 14 nights in Nha Trang itself is too long, I do think it is a nice place to visit with some good restaurants. I posted at the end of December about restaurants in Nha Trang - we had a good time eating there!

With the rest of your time, think about places such as Dalat, Hue and Hoi An

Nha Trang is perhaps my favorite Vietnam city. Plenty to do from NT and great restaurants, Vietnamese and western. Walking along Tran Phu St. or the beach is great, though there are alot of touts hanging about. 2 weeks may be a bit long though. I stayed at a quaint lil hotel called Duong Thai at 95/96 Tran Phu St. One of the nicest little hotels I%26#39;ve stayed in. No view but for $12USD you can%26#39;t beat it. Very clean and a great staff. Moto bike rental $5USD per day. Nice little places to eat nearby too.

Hi,

You mentioned that there were stingers in the water, what time of the year was that? My husband, 8yr old son %26amp; are planning a trip late may/jun

Cheers

Nha Trang is lots of fun irrespective of what age you are. I spent my 50th birthday with my 10 year old son in Vietnam and part of that time was in Nha Trang. Water Park is good to visit (on Vin Pearl) not mainland as well as day trips to Doc Lec and local attractions. Beach is ok with some lovely restaurants along the coast - Loiuisanna Cafe has a fabulous pool and you can use their deck chairs as long as you buy a drink or eat there. Great place to relax late afternoon.

Don%26#39;t recall anyone mentioning stingers whilst we were there last June.

Hope you are going to Hoi An as well which was my favourite part of Vietnam.

Nha Trang was OK 5 years ago but has been ruined by high-rise development and increasingly greedy locals, and is now best avoided. Try Hoi An instead, which has the perfect combination of beautiful beaches, history and plenty of restaurants, bars %26amp; activities.

I can think of much nicer places to go than Nha Trang. Were there in feb with my sister (same age group) and it didn%26#39;t appeal to us at all.I live on the coast in Aust and our beaches are soo much nicer. Great place for young backpackers however.

Dalat is very nice, a colder climate and very pretty for bush walking etc. A nice respite stop from the hustle and bustle of other VN cities. Hoi An and Hue also nice. Look at Ha An hotel in Hoi An. It is delightful. If you have any questions please ask. We spent 16 days north to south in Feb. Our sea view room in Nha Trang was looking thru the washing of hotel in front of us to the sea !!. If you do stay there consider booking a top hotel, otherwise you may be dissapointed. We paid $100.00 US at Asia Paradise and it was worst room from the 16 we stayed in in VN and was one of the dearest. We did have a nice French meal however, but thats about it !!
