Ways to get as much small change as possible.

I%26#39;ve read that getting back the correct change after making a purchase is a huge problem for tourists, and this frequently results in arguments.

As such, is there any way I can get as many small notes as possible so that I can pay exact amounts whenever I need something?

at the bank or use your large notes paying for meals keep your small notes for street vendors and taxis

Banks will give you small notes but how small do you want to go? 1,000 vnd is equal to 0.087 Sg$ at today%26#39;s exchange rate.

Right now the smallest denomination I have is 50,000. A couple of 5,000s and 10,000s would be good. Anything less I don%26#39;t mind paying as a tip. As I%26#39;m on a budget trip, I%26#39;ll be eating at budget-ier vendors as well, so I%26#39;m expecting the same issue as well.

I%26#39;ve heard people talk about the ';no change'; scenario but have so far not experienced it myself, maybe I%26#39;ve been lucky. Money changers and banks should be able to give you a few hundred thousand in smaller notes, there are also 5,000 and 2,000 coins which are very handy for smaller purchases.

So how do I get my hand on those coins?

Do you mean before you get to Vietnam? If so I can%26#39;t help you there but if you mean once you%26#39;re here then the same places you get your notes, from money exchange places, gold shops or banks.
