Loved the Red Dragon junk

First, let me say that Halong Bay is one of the most beautiful places on earth and the Red Dragon is a LUXURY boat. There are two Red Dragons. We were on number 2. It had five deluxe cabins and a crew that were superb. Hai, our English-speaking guide, was very attentive to our needs and had a wonderful personality. The first day, we motored to a spot enjoying the gorgeous limestone islands. When we stopped, Hai took us on a tour of a limestone cave with stalactites and stalagmites. After that, he took us kayaking. I had never kayaked before and wasn’t the smoothest one at it, but we managed. We watched the sunset and had a wonderful dinner prepared by an extraordinary chef. I don’t care for seafood and my husband is allergic. No worries, they catered to our needs and served us chicken, beef and other specialties. After dinner, all the crew came above deck for a “program” which consisted of Hai playing the guitar and folks taking turns singing songs. It was so much fun. The next day we visited a fishing village. People for generations have lived in houses on the water farming fish and pearls. Of course, we were able to purchase pearls right there. I bought a black pearl bracelet for $50.

Hi Redhead, hey if there are two Red Dragons - how do you ensure you find the LUXURY one ? Also, how was the weather at this time of year ? Wasn%26#39;t the water cold when kayaking ?

The two Red Dragon junks were built within months of each other, so I wouldn%26#39;t worry about getting #1 or #2. They are essentially identical and VERY nice. Having stepped from beach to kayak and back onto the beach at the end, I didn%26#39;t notice how cold the water was. Thankfully, I didn%26#39;t fall in. It was sweater weather the first of Feb. The couples on our boat from warmer climates had light jackets on though.
