Hue motorbike guides

I can%26#39;t resist posting a recommendation for 2 reasons.

Firstly our experience was one of the most memorable in our 4 month trip and I would love others to take advantage and secondly I sincerely hope my recommendation will persuade other Trip Advisor readers to contact our guides and give them the business so wholeheartedly deserve!

We spent a few days in Hue in January this year and on the first day we arrived we were fortunate enough to bump into Que and Tu who were to become our guides for the next 3 days.

They are both independent guides who offer tours by moto (110CC motor scooter)around the Hue region.

With very little persuasion we decided to take them up on their offer and jump aboard!

Our first day covered the surrounding countryside and sites, the Perfume River, a fabulous little rural museum, and a quick stop to meet Que%26#39;s family at his home on the return to our guesthouse.

Our second day took us north to the DMZ with lots of stops en route to visit war memorials, tunnels, and burial sites.

On our third day despite already having prepaid bus tickets we opted to travel to Hoi An as pillion passengers on their bikes.

We made several stops along the way to swim, eat, drink delicious Vietnamese coffee and take in the beautiful scenery.

Que and Tu were aware that we were avid foodies so took us to off the beaten track restaurants for new and sublime dining experiences.

Both speak fluent English and their knowledge of the area and history of the wars was fantastic.

Above all they are two of the most genuine, open-hearted, humorous and down to earth guys I have ever met.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet and spend 3 days in their company and I will be making every effort to visit them again in future years but in the meantime i am recommending everyone heading their way to look them up...

Hue motorbike guides

I think that we had the same guide although Quy (pronounced ';kwee';) had another partner, named Hieu. Like you, I highly recommend these fellows and I second everything you say. We met them at the Phuong Nam Cafe, which is their regular hangout.

We had only two full days in Hue but I think that these guys enabled us to see and experience th maximum pobssible. We too visited Quy%26#39;s family and the nearby rice museum and bridge (built in 1776).

Above all, they are safe, excellent drivers and their knoweledge of the area is unsurpassed.

My boyfriend and I also travelled with Quy when we were in Hue, on the recommendation of one of our friends. I can wholeheartedly agree with the recommendations above. We had an excellent and informative tour around Hue on the back of their bikes. Having done very little pillion passenger riding before I felt totally safe as well. They also offer 4-5 day trips through the DMZ or to Hoi An. The pictures and stories they had for these trips looked amazing - we were gutted that we had already booked a car for this part of the trip.

ANyway, I totally recommend these guys if you are in Hue. It definitely made touring around the pagodas (which are quite spread out) a lot easier, and it meant that we got to see some of the surrounding country-side as well.

JoGas:

Great report and useful for me. I am calling DaNang home for 7 days in late Feb between my stops in HCMC and Hanoi. I am planning on renting my own Motorbike (Moped or 150 CC or larger Dirt bike) for my 7 days to get around Danang, Hoi An and also Hue. Having rented my own dirtbike to navigate all around Phnom Penh Cambodia (one of the craziest places to drive in my opinion) I feel good about doing so while in Vietnam.

So my question. It would be nice to have a guide on their own bike to tour me around and I will reach out to Que and Tu.

Which of the 2 (unless I get both by default) would you utilize if doing so again and what did they charge either for the day or the 3 days to help me gauge prices.

I hope I can hook up with them.

Thanks,

Doug

I also met Quy while eating dinner at the Phuong Nam Cafe in Hue. I am really glad because he made my visit to Vietnam a unique and unforgetable experience.

He was a really genuine and friendly guy so I decided to take a tour and then the day trip to Hoi An. Going over the mountains was so beautiful!

I had so much fun that he ended up taking me all the way to Mui Ne. I was really impressed by his English skills and how much he knew about Vietnam. I liked that he encouraged me to ask lots of questions and would stop whenever I asked to take a picture or look around.

The other driver with us was Tu, who was a really funny guy too. These guys really take care of their ';guests';.

JoGas or others.

I have sent Quy and email and he got back to me right away. I will have my own Motorbike but like the idea of getting around with a guide so I am going to meet him in Hue in mid Feb.

I basically will have him from about 10am the first day and again the next day until about 1pm and then I am driving back to Da Nang. So I look at it as if I will have him for 2 days.

Can any of you give me an idea of what it will cost per day. I am figuring about $20.00 US a day (plus Gas?) or so but would like some advice if you do not mind on roughly what you paid.

Thanks and it should be fun.

Doug

What did you do with your luggage going to Hoi An ??

Would love to do tha same trip Hue Hoi An, we will be there 16th March

Not sure if your ? was to me or not. Either way I am calling Da Nang home for 7 days and will make my travels from there. Yes, I have heard Hoi An and Hue are much nicer but I did Da Nang for its central location to both. When I head up to Hue for the 2 or 3 days in the middle of my 7 days I am checking out of my Da Nang hotel so not to incur the cost of the hotel room and leaving my main bag with the hotel and taking a samll travel bag to Hue for the few days there. Since Hoi An is only an hour or so Motorbike ride (I will have my own) I can do this in day trips for my clothes shopping and tours.

On a side note to all, Quy has emailed again. He is on a 3 day tour with a German Couple now from Hue to Hoi An and it has been great coordinateing my time with him. Again any updates on fees to him would be helpful.

Thanks,

Doug

Me and my girlfriend arrived in Hue and planned to go to HoiAnn later from wherewe would fly to Nha Trang. Then we ran into Tu, a Vietnamese guy, who asked us if we would like to go on atrip by motor.

Off caurse we were not sure rightaway, but acouple of days later we sat down and discused the issue.

We decided to do a 2 day trip on the Ho Chi Min trail to Hoi Ann.

The next day we left and it was amazing, one of the nicest experience we had so far in 4 month travelling.

Tu and his partner in crime , Ti, showed us all the nice places, traveling over very small roads, drinking the best ca fe, and eating the best food.

And later some beers, why not? Ariving in Hoi Ann Tu asked us if we would like to do 6 days more and go all the way to Mui Ne...after some thinking we decided that this would be the best way to see Vietnam%26#39;s Highlands and not to have to travel by bus on hellroad 1.

We stayed 1 day in Hoi A and then we went on a most special trip through rice fields over the mountains past waterbuffalos, playing childeren, small pigs, small villages, rivers, warterfalls, elephants, longhouses and local people.

Tu took very good care of us (he bought rubber boots when it was raining) and provided for everything.

He had also a nice surprise for us....accomodation!!!

Tu does also cooking classes, so the food you eat is always picked carefully, and we will always remember the table roasted chicken by cheff Tu himself!!!!

All we have to say is; IF YOU DON%26#39;T TRY IT, YOU DON%26#39;T KNOW!!!
