Help on Train from Mu Nei to Hue

Hi there,

I%26#39;m travelling to Vietnam late April and after spending two days in HCMC I%26#39;m then going to travel to Mu Nei. After spending a few days on the beach I intend to travel North to Hue but wanted to ask if there was a direct train from Mu Nei or if I would need to travel back into HCMC.

Please could anyone with advice get in touch to let me know.

Many thanks in advance,

NB

Help on Train from Mu Nei to Hue

First of all, there is almost only 1 train route in Vietnam, going North-South. (with some extensions to the other regions in the North, ex. going to Lao Cai).

On this track, there is the main train HCMC-Hanoi, with many stops along the way. Depends on the train name, it will stop often or more direct.

Other trains are regional, but if the places are between HCMC %26amp; Hanoi (look at the map), they are running on the same track, literary, that only track.

I guess this answers your question if there is a direct train between Mui Ne and Hue. If you are at Mui Ne, you can catch any train that has a destination further to the north than Hue and it will sure take you to Hue.

From a combination of info in the Lonely Planet Guide, the vietnamtourism.com website and my handy map of Viet Nam, it looks a little complicated but not impossible.

The train doesn%26#39;t go to Mui Ne in the first place. You can either take a direct local train to Phan Thiet and get a bus/taxi/xe om to Mui Ne, about 22km to the east, or take the Reunification Express to Muong Man which is a further 12km to the west of Phan Thiet and then do the bus/taxi/xe om thing. Or you can take an open tour bus from HCMC which may or may not divert off Highway One into Mui Ne (so check that it does).

To get to Hue you need to make your way back to Muong Man to get the Reunification Express which will take you all the way to Hue. I didn%26#39;t find it the most comfortable way to travel, and don%26#39;t recommend you take anything less than soft sleeper class as at least the toilets will stay clean and not gas you out as they did fellow travellers we met who went hard sleeper. Taks food as well as the train food has a poor reputation- I don%26#39;t know, as we didn%26#39;t actaually see any on our trip.

NB,

Check the Vietnam Railway website:

In the past it was Muang Man Station where you鈥檒l take the train. But now I can鈥檛 view anything.

Note their public holidays on 30 April and International Labor Day 1 May. It can be hard to buy train tickets before, on and after these 2 days.

Thank you everyone for the advise. I am still confused but nothing I can%26#39;t figure out after looking at a map and the train lines.
