Hi all,
First post in the Vietnam forum, and would be grateful for any advice you all could provide.
My wife and I would like to be away from home for Christmas and New Year this year, and are considering Vietnam as a possibility.
We have previously been to Phuket several times, and are now looking for somewhere new to try.
To give you some help, we are both early 30s, like relaxing on nice beaches, and we enjoy good food rather than over touristy places with loads of nighlife and bars etc.
Where would be a good place to try for us, which roughly meets the above requirements. Budget wise, we%26#39;d probably want to spend about 拢70 / $100 per night if that helps.
Thanks,
James.

With that budget, if you stayed in Hoi An you%26#39;d be laughing.
Seriously, Hoi An is lovely, and restaurants abound. There%26#39;s enough culture stuff around to keep you occupied should you so wish and it%26#39;s nice and compact. The hotel (we stayed in three different ones for various reasons) we liked best, the Ha An, was $US45/night for two, which included a lavish and delicious buffet breakfast with made to order omelettes and pancakes.

Hi YorkFoodie,
Thanks for getting back to me...
When you say there is plenty around, is there enough to keep us going for 10 - 12 days? We%26#39;d prefer to be in the 1 place for the duration of our hol, but Hoi An is a place I like the look of, if there is enough there.
Cheers,
James.
Some poeple have spent that long in Hoi An- I%26#39;d go for 7-8 days then trek up the road (a really spectacular trip) through the Hai Van Pass to Hue and spend the rest of the time there. No beach but as the former Imperial City and site of some of the heaviest fighting of the American War there%26#39;s much to see and do.
To get to Hue from Hoi An you can either take bus/taxi/car to Da Nang and then train to Hue, or car all the way. Each way goes through a different part of the Hai Van Pass, and both have spectacular views.
