ATMs/Banks

Hello

We are due to visit Hoi An in March 2009 and my husband was asking about the best way to get our money as we normally use our Nationwide Account and draw the money out using ATM machines.

Can you please tell are there any ATM machines in Hoi An and if so were are they located? If there are no ATM machines then are there any banks? If not I expect we will have to find a money changer.

Your advise is greatly appreciated.

Regards

ATMs/Banks

There are a number of ATMs located in Hoi An, sorry I can%26#39;t remember the streets they are are on but it isn%26#39;t a big town, you%26#39;ll stumble on them fairly easily. There are also a good number of banks which offer current exchange rates. I%26#39;m not sure what Nationwide charge for using ATMs which are not their own and are also abroad but suspect the charges would make it more economical to change cash. In general money changers give a slightly lower rate than banks and gold shops give a slightly higher rate, exceptions do exist. However the operative word is slightly. ATMs with their associated service and exchange charges are the least effective way of changing money unless you have a great deal with your bank.

You will not have any trouble finding ATMs in Hoi An or any other major city in Vietnam. Always make sure you use the machine during bank hours so that you can get the card back if there is an issue with the machine.

As you will be charged fees you might consider drawing out larger quantities than small amounts often.

We have some pics and stories of our trips here... www.bobandjanette.com which may help.

Happy and safe travels

Thanks Bob - enjoyed looking at your web link!

We are with a UK Bank called Nationwide and they do not charge us for withdrawing money from ATMs abroad so we should be ok.

Thanks for the info.
